About This Webinar

AI can imitate how you talk, write, and think. Does that mean it can imitate you? This session looks at what makes human identity real — and what AI still can't touch.

🤖

Can AI Pass As You?

AI can mimic your words and habits. That's not the same as being you. We'll look at the difference between imitation and identity.

🧬

Transhumanism: Merging With Machines

Transhumanism is the idea of using technology — implants, AI, genetic tweaks — to upgrade the human body and mind, maybe even merge with machines entirely. We'll ask: how far is too far, and what of "you" would be left?

🌐

Are We Even Real?

Some scientists and philosophers think reality itself could be a simulation. If that's true, what does "authentic identity" even mean?

Key Publications & Research

Dr. Horne's research spans philosophy, consciousness studies, and systems theory, providing a rich interdisciplinary foundation for interrogating what AI means for authentic human identity.

Why This Research Matters

  • Goes beyond technical benchmarks to real philosophical grounding
  • Separates authentic human identity from AI mimicry
  • Informs responsible, human-centered AI (SDG 4, SDG 9)

Who Should Attend

  • AI researchers & ML engineers
  • AI ethics practitioners & policy advisors
  • Responsible-AI / human-centered tech teams
  • Philosophers & consciousness researchers

Learning Outcomes

  • A framework: authentic identity vs. artificial mentation
  • Grounding for responsible AI (SDG 4, SDG 3, SDG 9)
  • An invitation to collaborate on peer-reviewed AHI research

Visiting Professor, Department of Philosophy

Dr. Jeremy Horne is a philosopher, educator, and systems thinker whose work explores consciousness, identity, and the structure of reality. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Florida, with specializations in logic, political and social philosophy, philosophy of education, and the history of thought.

His ongoing research focuses on authentic human identity, the ontology of number and time, and states of life and consciousness. He is currently studying the Voris methodology, the framework behind Authentic Systems' approach to locating and describing personal identity as an aspect of consciousness.

Dr. Horne has presented internationally on the philosophy of science and consciousness, including for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), where he served as President-Emeritus of its Southwest Area Division. He was among the founding contributors to what became The Science of Consciousness (TSC) conference series, now the largest of its kind globally.

As a peer reviewer for journals in consciousness studies, systems theory, and philosophy of science, Dr. Horne brings rigorous insight to emerging fields. He also served as CEO of the Inventor's Assistance League and worked in systems documentation for U.S. government and private sectors.

What We'll Cover

Six questions, one thread: what makes you, you — and what doesn't.

1. Can AI Pass As You?

Imitating your voice isn't the same as being you. Where's the line?

2. Your Life Theme

The pattern of values that runs through your life — and why AI can't copy it.

3. Intelligence vs. Consciousness

We're building "intelligent" machines. We still don't agree what consciousness is. That gap matters.

4. Transhumanism: How Far Is Too Far?

Upgrading the body and mind with technology, up to merging with machines — what's gained, what's lost.

5. Are We a Simulation?

If reality itself is simulated, what happens to the idea of an "authentic" self?

6. Do You Know Yourself?

Bringing it together — and a self-check before you answer for anyone else.

Get Involved in the Research

Dr. Horne is looking for collaborators for peer-reviewed publication in five open areas:

Artificial mentation
Value systems behind AHI
Validating AHI probes
Belief & values
Simulation hypothesis

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a philosophy or AI background to attend?
No prior philosophy background is required. The session is built for AI researchers, ML engineers, and AI ethics practitioners first, but is accessible to anyone working on responsible or human-centered technology, including SDG-focused educators and policy advisors.
Is this webinar against AI, or anti-technology?
No. The aim is not to reject AI but to rigorously examine what it means for human identity — so that its development can be guided by philosophical clarity rather than assumption.
What is the Paradigm Authentic Life Theme Assessment?
It is one of the research probes discussed in the webinar — a systematic approach to validating authentic human identity and assessing its predictive value, part of the broader research areas open for collaboration.
Can I get involved in the research afterward?
Yes. The webinar explicitly invites participants to collaborate on research areas including artificial mentation, value systems, AHI probe validation, and the simulation hypothesis, with a goal of joint publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. All registered participants will receive a certificate of attendance and access to supplementary materials after the webinar.
